Tuesday 25th July 2006

Our Vison of Hope team returned safely from Ukraine. A full update will be available on the Vision of Hope website available from the links page soon. Congratulations to Songster Fraser Ramsay who was awarded 'Top Boy' at the recent Irish School of Music.

We were saddened to learn of the sudden Promotion to Glory of a former Govan Songster, May Gillespie. Our thoughts and prayers are with Charles, George and Helen at this time.

Wednesday 4 April 2005

Dumbarton Baptist Church was filled to hear a programme of music from the Band and Songsters. The band taking the first half of the programme, and the Brigade the second. This has proved to be a succesful formula in recent concerts. During the second half of the programme the brigade featured 'There's never been a mountain', 'His strength is perfect'', Horn solo Demelza, 'Surel'''y He has borne our griefs, When I survey, 'He had to hold to Calvary' and a "first" rendition of ''''With wings as eagles.

Saturday 18 March 2006

A well filled hall heard the brigade present a fine programme of music at Paisley Citadel. Items included, ''Alive, 'The Majesty and Glory of your Name', 'War on the floor', and 'Rock Eternal'. The soloists were Elizabeth Hay and Moira Wilson. At the end of the evening a cheque for £500.00, the proceeds of the event, was presented to Sheila and Colin McFarlane as Paisley Citadels contribution to Govans Vision of Hope 2006 - Ukraine Project. A group from the brigade will be joining with our friends at Paisley on Sunday to assist in their meetings which will be led by S/Sgt Elma Stewart and Songster John Stewart. The brigade would again wish to thank Joyce an Ann for their accompaniements.

Friday 24 February 2006

The songsters sung to a capacity congregation is Springfield Cambridge Church. The brigade sung new additions to our repertoire including 'War on the floor', 'There will never be a mountain'' and When I survey' amongst others. Elanor Baxter featured as vocal soloist with 'Wade in the water', with Audrey Ramsay featuring in 'He had to hold to Calvary". Fraser Ramsay contributed the horn solo ' Demelza'. The brigade were warmly received by the very receptive congregation.

The Songsters were pleased to be able to hold a short Carol Service in the chapel of Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock, for Commissioner Pauline Banks.

Friday 9 December 2005

The Songsters and Timbrels joined with Govan Band to provide the music for the Rotary Club of Govan Carol Service. A well filled Sherbrooke St Gilberts Church heard the Songsters contribute 'Proclaim the Glory of the Lord','Come into our world', 'Joy to the world', 'Christ is Come' and 'O Holy Night'.

Monday 28 November 2005

Following the success of their first CD Recording ALIVE, Govan Songsters are delighted that they will once again be working with Salvationist Publishing and Supplies and BH Sound Services to produce a second CD. Recording is scheduled for February 2007, with a proposed release date of June 2007. Early planning for the CD is already under way with some titles from our current repertoire to be included in the recording.

Sunday 20 November 2005.

It was good to witness the enrolment of a new soldier in the Salvation meeting. Rachael, daughter of Alan and songster Margo Ritchie by former commanding officers Majors Chris and Lynda Connolly. The brigade contributed 'Somebody Prayed For Me', accompanied by Brian Allan, and 'Grace Alone', accompanied by Victoria Ramsay fom Winton Corps. Victoria had travelled north to witness the enrolment of her friend Rachael.

At our first rehearsal since our return from Canada, the brigade were delighted to learn of the engagement of Songsters Elanor Baxter and David O'May.

Monday 10 October 2005

The Songsters and of members of the Corps family met for a prayer vigil to complete our Spiritual preparations for Canada. Our time spent together will be remembered for a long time by those present, and will prove to be of benefit as we travel.

 Saturday 1 October 2005

A congregation of over 300 filled the Sherbrooke St Gilberts Church in Glasgow to share in the Songsters Pre Tour Festival. The Songsters, Glasgow Deaf Action Choir, Sarah Rimer (Violin) and Bold as Brass (Brass quintet) provided a festival of song, drama, and instrumental playing of the highest standard. Salvation Army congregations may be unused to the playing of the violin in the festival environment, but Sarah Rimer captivated those present with her artistry and command of the instrument. Glasgow Deaf Action Choir and Govan Songsters Drama groups provided some beautiful and uplifting moments throughout the evening. Bold as Brass demonstrated brass playing of the highest quality, providing a range of music to suit all tastes.

Monday August 15

We are joined for part of our rehearsal by the Leader of The International Staff Songsters, Dorothy Nancekievill and her family. Dorothy, a former soldier at Govan conducts the brigade in 'Grace Alone'.

June 27 2005

For our final rehearsal before the summer break, the brigade were joined by many former songsters still worshipping at Govan. A brigade of over 70 joined together to sing songs old and new including 'To the Hills' and 'The Awakeners' These songs were accompanied by former songster pianist Malcolm Cassidy. A good time of music making and fellowship was enjoyed by all, with many reminiscences shared over refreshments.
