Tonight saw a completely different evening as we supported the 'Life of Lynda' project, led by Bandmaster Steve Hanover (Regent Hall). Steve is looking to raise £50,000 for Cancer Research, UK's leukaemia research and The Salvation Army's overseas health care.
In doing so, Steve is carrying out a 900-mile charity bike ride and whilst he stops off at various venues, he will also perform on his tenor horn as well as discuss the project. On route to Govan SA, as the rain belted down, Steve played in the centre of Glasgow
at Buchanan Galleries before cycling over the famous Glasgow Squinty Bridge and then onto Ibrox Stadium where Steve was able to see the pitch. We were delighted to have Steve and the team with us this evening in a Supper and Ceilidh night. Throughout the night Steve spoke at how the project was so close to his heart, having lost his sister to Leukaemia many years ago. Emotions ran high as Steve then played Paul Sharman's 'Song for Lynda', written especially for the project. We were delighted to support the event and in total raised over £900 for the project.

The night also saw three other members conduct the brigade in SL. Bette McFarlane (Clydebank), SCL Matt Ramsay and Songsters Executive Officer, Commissioner Keith Banks. The evening concluded in the chance to share in fellowship over a refreshements and the accustomed strawberry tarts.

This morning the tables were turned on our CO's and rather than 'Majors meet the kids' it was 'Kids meet the Majors' as two of our young people interviewed the Majors. CT Stephen Jacques & YPSM Laura Moore represented the Corps and offered words of thanks & farewell to the departing CO's pror to the presentation of gifts.
The songsters, on Major Helen's request sang, 'Singin' in the Heavenly Choir' and it was very fitting that the Songster leader invited Major Helen to conduct the songsters. For the first time in their four year stay Major Derek was invited by the songster leader to sing with the brigade, which brought much approval from the congregation. Following a thought and another duet 'My Tribute' from the Majors we concluded fittingly with the 'Founders Song' complete with Corps flags. Still carrying on from our Spring Festival weekend, this morning's meeting was led by Captain Lucy Mann (Glasgow West). The young people once again challenged the congregation with not just their musical items but also spoken word as Philip Henderson and Jenna Pascoe shared in testimony. Jenna's singing of the beautiful and powerful 'His Promise' created a beautiful atmosphere as well as Philip's playing of 'Compelled By Love'. Chelsea Pascoe once again, enriched our worship with another piece of music she had written, 'The Love of Jesus'.
Our Sunday afternoon meeting saw further new additions to both Singing Company and YP Band's repertoire with the singing of 'Do Something Beautiful' and another Adam Moore composition, 'Royal Banner'. This weekend saw our annual YP Spring Festival with special guests Jenna Pascoe (Vocal - Belfast Sydenham), Chelsea Pascoe (Piano - Belfast Sydenham) and Philip Henderson (Euphonium - Clydebank). Each year, our Spring Festival serves to encourage the young people in our Corps, division and throughout the territory. As well as our own YP sections taking centre stage, we invited young soloists of similar age to inspire our own young people to develop their own musical abilities. A packed hall was treated to a feast of music from the off as the Singing Company (SCL Matt Ramsay) and YP Band (YPBL David Cochrane) got us off to a flier with 'Do Lord' and 'Deep & Wide'.
The festival, compered excellently by Allan Ramsay, saw all three soloists excell with a great variety of items. Jenna Pascoe with 'Your Grace Still Amazes Me', 'Hallelujah Get Happy' and 'How Great Is Our God' and a stirring comedy item with her sister Chelsea as they thrilled the congregation with a piano duet, written by Chelsea, 'I've Got The Joy'. Philip Henderson delivered tremendous performances throughout the night as the 16 year old contributed with 'Ransomed' and 'Song of The Brother', accompanied by Govan Citadel Band. Philip was then accompanied on piano by his father, David, as he created a beautiful atmosphere in the playing of 'Donegal Bay'. Our senior band who supported well contributed Dean Goffin's arrangement of the finale from the William Tell Overture. Further items from Singing Company and YP Band, brought the evening to a close with the YP Band playing a march written by AYPBL Adam Moore, 'Follow On', before the Singing Company sung their final song 'When You Believe' that saw them for the first time sing in Hebrew aswell. A thrilling night, as the young people entertained and blessed everyone present.
